When you prepare a checklist, you won’t miss on any of the important tasks that have to be completed before, during and after you move. Not just that, a checklist will also help you carry out all the tasks in a more organized way.
To get started with the checklist, begin by adding the most important and major tasks on top. This will include the first step to moving house, which is to find reliable removalists and what you need from them. Spend time to find removalists who offer all the services you need – packing, storing and transportation of household goods. Get quotes from different moving services and pick one that meets your needs and fits your budget.
The second category in your moving house checklist would be the utilities that you need to disconnect and connect. Ensure that the electricity, water, cable, phone and gas are disconnected on the day you leave. Also, have the connections ready by the time you move into your new place. For this, spare a day in advance to submit a request at the offices of these utility providers.
Next, make a list of the organizations and the people who you have to inform about your change of address. This includes your insurance company, your banker, doctor, magazine subscriptions, mobile phone company, government agencies and of course, your family and friends.
While making these lists, be sure to have a timeline by when you should have finished it. Ideally, the main task of finding and arranging a moving service should be done at least a month before you move. Utilities and address change should be taken care of at least week or 10 days before.
